Good Points

Lots of room inside and spacious bathrooms.

Bad Points

Menus are hard to read if in a wheelchair.

Green and Grilled is in the Rockwell Plaza Shopping Center on the far west side. It’s a large mall with a good deal of traffic. So, sure enough, the Disabled Parking is separated from the restaurant by a mall traffic lane. A big one. There is, however, a crosswalk from the parking to the restaurant, and the slope of the ramp is almost unnoticeable.

We entered the restaurant from the wrong door. Down a bit to the right is the proper door. It leads you to a controlled line area. They need a line area because this is an “order at the counter” restaurant. You place and pay for your order and you get a table identifier. When your order is ready, it is brought out to you.

The menu can be found in two places. Your first chance is the wall adjacent to the line area. It’s very big, but sometimes the glare from the front windows makes the wall menu difficult to read. And it’s at standing eye level. If you haven’t made up your mind by the time you get to the counter, there is another menu built into the counter. Hard to read from a wheelchair.

There was plenty of room to move in between tables. There is a side of the restaurant that has elevated booths with bar stools on the floor side. I won’t be climbing up any time soon, but it was interesting. And it was the only area a disabled person couldn’t use.

The bathroom experience was just that. An experience. First off, these are unisex bathrooms. “Family Restrooms” I think they’re called. Lots of room. Even with the changing table. And there are two such bathrooms. On the bright side, since women will be using the same bathroom as men, the décor and overall atmosphere is much nicer than most men-only rooms. But, inexplicably, the TP dispenser is placed at the end of one of the grab bars. Out of reach. So, so many things I could say about that. But I won’t.

My best advice is to check out the menu on their website first and avoid the neck strain later.
