LongHorn Steakhouse is a stand-alone building with great Disabled Parking spots, well identified, and very close to the front door. Best of all, there is no need of a ramp. The parking spots are level with the sidewalk and the sidewalk is level with the door. Or, almost level. There is no need to get into the traffic lane.
Our visit was with a networking group that was having a Christmas party. There was a stand around are for chit chat, but it was really too small of an area for a wheelchair. But getting to my seat at the long table (put together from several smaller tables0 was pretty easy. This area of the restaurant was configured with booths on the sides and tables in the middle. I had no trouble moving from the chit chat area to my seat because there was ample room between the tables and the booths. (But there's more to that story later.)
My only real gripe is the indoor ramp to get to our side of the restaurant. I just don't like indoor ramps. Of course, I got a push from my son on the way up and it was easy to roll down at the end.
From my seat I could see the restroom sign. As the bird flies, I was close. But I had to go down another indoor ramp to get to the restroom hallway. It was easy going down but coming back up is why I don't like indoor ramps. I always feel a little insecure. Hy logical brain tells me the the angle of incline is not going to cause me to fall backwards, but my emotional brain suggests otherwise. I just don't like indoor ramps.
The door to the restroom hall way was easy to open, but why is it there? The door is right under the sign "RESTROOMS" so everybody knows where you're going. Why can't it just be a hallway.
The door to the restroom was just a little bit too heavy, but I've navigated worse. The stall had plenty of room but it took me a while to find the flush button. I think it was an auto flusher, but since I was just visiting, the sensor didn't see me. Oh well. The door to the outside had what looked like a fist friendly handle. It was just ornate.
Leaving was difficult. While it was easy to get to my seat when nobody was seated at the tables, it was cramped moving back when all the seats were occupied. It was a "oops...sorry...thanks" kind of exit. When I got back to the car I went straight for the driver's side before I realized that I was not driving back. So I rolled behind my car to get to the other side. The parking lot at that area was in need of improvement and leveling. At one point I couldn't get traction and my right back wheel was spinning. I should have gone back onto the sidewalk and then around to the passenger's side. So my bad for going the wrong way and their bad for not leveling the lot.
Hook'em Horns.
